How to End Unemployment
This article is about how to end involuntary unemployment. The idea is that the government would establish various state owned places of employment which would give priority employment to long term unemployed people who apply for employment in such an establishment. It would not be compulsory.
There is a debate about whether or not to privatise state owned employers. Those on the right of the political spectrum are generally in favour of doing so. Those on the left are generally not. But here is an idea that could unite left wing and right wing thought. Those on the right would welcome reduced reliance of social welfare. Those on the left would welcome greater prosperity for those long term unemployed who secure employment. And people throughout the political spectrum would welcome the reduction in unemployment.
The idea is for the government to set up state owned places of employment. These could include hotels, supermarkets, and factories. These establishments would give employment priority to long term unemployed people, if they apply for it. It is an essential part of the idea that it should not be compulsory. If it were compulsory, it would be compared to slavery, and would be called a violation of personal rights.
The long term unemployed person would gain valuable work experience which they could use to gain more desirable employment later on. It would be good for the economy. It would help generate money for the government. It could be considered as an employment safety net.
